Shares of Micron Technology Inc., the largest memory chipmanufacturer in the U.S., rose 7.7% and Red Hat Inc. jumped 18%after record revenues higher than the estimate. GameStop Corp.shares jumped 4.1% after the maker of this video game predictsearnings beat analyst projections.
Amazon.com Inc. shares also rose 3.3% after William Blair & Co.raised the rating of online retailers.
S & P 500 rose 0.7% to 1306.25 at 11 am in New York, the highest in 2 weeks. Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 72.2 pointsor 0.6% to 12158.22.
"The global economy was improved to give effect to theperformance of corporate earnings. positive perceptions alsocome from European efforts to jointly find solutions to control the budget," said David Kelly, chief market strategist at JPMorganFunds in New York.
