Indonesia's Trade Balance Surplus US$1.91 Billion?

JAKARTA: Indonesia recorded a US$1.91 billion surplus on trade balance during January 2011.

"The export reached to US$14.45 billion, while import was US$12.55 billion. So surplus on trade balance was US$1.91 billion," said Head of Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) Rusman Heriawan, today.

Data of BPS shows that oil and gas trading noted a deficit of US$453.6 billion, while non-oil and gas experienced a surplus of US$2.35 billion.

"The biggest contribution to the surplus was coming from non-oil and gas trading. Whereas, for oil and gas trading, we had a deficit," he said.

According to Rusman, Indonesia usually recorded surplus on trading with Singapore, UK, US, South Korea and Taiwan.

Furthermore, trading activity with some countries such as Thailand, Germany, France, China, Japan, and Australia remained deficit.

"The highest trading deficit is China with US$662.5 million, while with Malaysia we have the biggest surplus of US$578.8 million. We also noted the biggest surplus with China of US$576.6 million. The pattern is still the same," said Rusman. (Wiw/t03)
