Coal Reference Price RI Slim Down to U.S. $ 122.02 / Ton?

Jakarta - The government lowered the price of coal reference(HBA) in April 2011amounted to U.S. $ 0.41 / ton to U.S. $ 122.02/ ton . The amount of decrease in prices in April 2011 is not verysignificant so that it can be said HBA stabilize at around U.S. $122/ton.


This is a benchmark reference price for coal with quality caloriesaround 6322 kcal / kg (gross as received). Price uses a formulathat refers to the average index of ICI-1 (Indonesia Coal Index),Platts-1, Nex (Newcastle Export Index) and GC (Global NewcastleCoal Index).

This price is valid for the price of spot prices (sales contractsunder 12 months) while for the price term (contract sales of morethan 12 months), the reference price using the average of the last 3 months HBA and current prices for coal sales for 12 months.

Thin down the reference price is because China is expected to cut its imports of coal in this year due to high prices. Indeed, in earlyApril this international coal prices rose 3.3% to an average of14.74 / ton which is the highest price since February 4, 2011 last.

The increase in international prices is because Japan has the potential power shortage after the earthquake and tsunami onMarch 11, which resulted in a decrease of national capacity-fired power plants up to 8%.
