The tug of war continued on Wall Street this past week as choppy trading proved to be a dominant theme amid a fairly quiet landscape on the news and data front. The bulls ultimately prevailed,
as buying pressures on Friday bolstered the coveted S&P 500 Index past recent resistance, hitting the 1,570 level and settling at a five-year high on the week [see Free 7 Simple & Cheap All- ETF Model Portfolios].Actionable ETF Trade Ideas
Our picks from Monday’s Insider posted mixed performance results while major equity indexes largely moved sideways for most of the week. Below, we highlight how our trade ideas fared during the week [sign up for a free trial of ETFdb Pro to get actionable ETF ideas every Monday, as well as access to more than 50 all-ETF model portfolios].

Trade #1 Long GREK: Down 5.8%
This rather risky recommendation turned against us this week after shares of GREK quickly sank below our outlined stop-loss. This ETF appeared to be building out support above $16 a share and was gearing up for a rebound on Monday; our bullish suspicions quickly proved false, however, after GREK opened below $16 a share on Tuesday, prompting us to exit the trade and incur a loss.
Trade #2 Long EPI: Up 0.3%
This recommendation drifted sideways for almost the entire week. EPI failed to rebound with vigor like we had hoped; instead, this ETF crept sideways below the $18 level until staging a very small rally on Friday, which ended up boosting this recommendation into profitable territory.
Trade #3 Long TLT: Up 0.8%
This defensive recommendation was well-timed, as inactivity on the equity front prompted many to jump ship to bonds in anticipation of a potential pullback. TLT climbed higher from the beginning of the week through Wednesday when shares managed to hurdle over the $118 level. This ETF gave into profit-taking pressures before the end of the trading week; however, this recommendation still managed to turn in a minor profit.
