Advice For Entrepreneurs From Bob Marley's Son

Somewhere at CES, deep between the dozens (and dozens…and dozens…) of cheap plastic iPhone 5 cases, iPad stands, and other accessories is a booth featuring a new brand of eco-friendly headphones and speakers developed by the House of Marley.

Yes, that Marley’s family and brand.
Primarily featuring earth-friendly, premium quality personal audio and lifestyle products at the 2013 CES, House of Marley strives to realize Bob’s vision of One Love, One World by creating lifestyle products that are crafted to last, use earth-friendly materials and benefit people and planet. I had a chance to sit down with Bob’s son, Rohan, to talk about his role at the House of Marley as an entrepreneur in the development of the products featured at CES this year.
Here is his advice for other entrepreneurs:
Discover How (or what) You Can Give Back To the World
Rohan said that “before we started anything, I myself wanted to find out how I could contribute to society, as my father did so much for this earth. The first thing I did was study on a farm in Jamaica, and realized there that you help the community with sustainability. Everything has to be organic and protect the earth.”
Do What Feels Good
Rohan says, “My family are all musicians, and we are a family of innovators who all have a vision – a vision to not just live in the earth and soak up air but also be inspired by what others have been doing and people have been approaching us to do. But how do we do it where it’s ‘us’ and resonates with who we are? So we started researching and developing to find the right material that really says ‘this is Marley, this feels like Marley’ – something that Bob would love. We did what feels good.”
Express Yourself
“My father was the first entrepreneur in the family that had his own sustainable system – he had a sustainable business. We took that ideology, and expounded upon that, because we are of today,” explains Rohan. He added “If you see it, why not do it. Express your creativity. It’s all about expressing yourself.”
Don’t Stop
And Rohan’s biggest piece of advice? “Never stop doing what you started to do.”
