State firms win airport expansion project

A consortium of state and private companies have won the tender for the expansion of Terminal 3 at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in a contract valued at Rp 4.7 trillion (US$484 million).

The consortium is called Kawapehajaya Indonesia and consists of three state-owned enterprises (SOEs), namely PT Wijaya Karya (WIKA), PT Waskita Karya (WSKT) and PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PTPP), along with private firms Hyundai Engineering Co. Ltd, PT Jaya Teknik Indonesia and PT Indulexco.

The Terminal 3 expansion, which is due to be completed within 28 months, will include detailed engineering designs and the construction of the main terminal building, roads and a parking area.

WIKA corporate secretary Natal Argawan Pardede said the company held a 37 percent stake in the
consortium.

“Looking at the breakdown, WIKA’s share of the total project is worth about Rp 1.7 trillion,” Natal said.

The expansion of Terminal 3 is expected to help WIKA meet its target of collecting new contracts worth Rp 20.7 trillion by the end of the year.

PTPP has 8.5 percent stake in the consortium, according to the company’s corporate secretary, Betty Ariana. Given this percentage, PTPP’s portion of the project is worth Rp 399.71 billion.

Betty said the expansion project would help PTPP achieve its target to book Rp 19.7 trillion in new contracts by year-end. It has already collected Rp 1.1 trillion in new contracts as of the end of January.

Another SOE expecting the Terminal 3 project to help meet its full-year contract target is WSKT.

The firm held a 38 percent stake in the consortium, giving it a share of Rp 1.79 trillion from the total contract value, the company’s head of investor relations, Agus Sugion, said.

Agus added that WSKT had obtained Rp 699 billion new
contracts as of the end of January and the Terminal 3 expansion would boost the company’s new contracts to around Rp 2.4 trillion as of this February.

WSKT aims to reap Rp 14 trillion in new contracts by the end of the year, a 30 percent increase compared to its achievement last year of Rp 10.74 trillion.
