How the Dow Jones industrial average and other major indexes fared Wednesday
The Dow Jones industrial average fell Wednesday, dropping below its highest level of the year. McDonald's pulled the index lower. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose to its highest level in more than five years before falling back to end the day little changed.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 35.79 points, or 0.3 percent, to 13,982.91.
The S&P 500 gained 0.90, or 0.1 percent, to 1,520.33.
The Nasdaq composite rose 10.38 points, or 0.3 percent, to 3,196.88.
For the week:
The Dow is down 10.06 points, or 0.1 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 2.40 points, or 0.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 3.01 points, or 0.1 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 878.77 points, or 6.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 94.14 points, or 6.6 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 177.37 points, or 5.9 percent.
